Having Fun With Kids Room Renovations
For kids, a bedroom is more than just a place to sleep. It is a place for playing, homework, hanging out with friends, and relaxing. When we are building or renovating a home, we take tackling the kids rooms very seriously. We help our clients create a space that serves multiple functions, reflects their children’s styles and personalities, and is practical for years to come.
The Child as the Client
When it comes to building the best kids rooms, we believe, when possible, in going straight to the future residents for input – the kids! We want each child’s room to reflect who they are. So, we ask what they like, their favorite colors, what they want to see in their room. That being said, we understand that preferences change, so we recommend sticking with neutral furniture that can grow with the child, while selecting a favorite hue, quote, and/or adhesive art for the walls and fun accessories that can easily be swapped out over time.
Sufficient Storage
Storage in a kids room should never be lacking! To keep the room clutter-free, ample storage is key. Start with a closet organization system complete with clothing rods, drawers, shelves, and hanging storage. Install shelves to display artwork, awards, and favorite items. Cubbies and bookshelves with baskets and bins also help keep everything neat and tidy. Add a window seat – perfect for reading and storing!
A Shared Bedroom
Creating a personalized space for two occupants can be a challenge, but it is possible. Consider creating a separate space for each child. If possible, split the room so that each child has a bed and dresser on “their” side of the room and then they can personalize their “own” space.
