Basement Remodeling and Finishing Project in Ridgewood, NJ
One of the most affordable ways to create additional living space is to finish your basement. The lowest level of your home is full of untapped potential. You could create a gym, theater, office, playroom for the kids, wine cellar, bedroom suite or more. You just need someone with an eye for maximizing space to assess your basement, provide you with options and turn your vision into a reality. Homeowners in the Bergen County, New Jersey area routinely reach out to K&B Home Solutions to help them transform their basements from dark, cold storage areas to usable square footage the family can enjoy 12 months a year. And that’s just what we did with a recent project in Ridgewood.
A Total Transformation that Transformed the Family’s Lifestyle
For this home, below grade certainly does not mean below par. This basement is now spacious, bright and airy – and it checks off a lot of “need” boxes for the homeowners.
While the home already had a partially finished basement, it was dated and far from inviting – check out the before photos at the end of the blog and you will see what we mean. We reconfigured the entire lower level to maximize every square foot. Our team worked with the homeowners to create a layout that addressed the particular living space needs of their family. The design included a mudroom, family room, home gym, bedroom, bathroom, and laundry room – plus still left plenty of space for ample storage. In the end, we created a cozy living space and work out area for the whole family to enjoy – all in approximately 900 square feet.
Bringing the Basement Design to Life
Our team started by tearing out the old 70’s vibe bathroom and used that space to build a large family area and mudroom. The bathroom was relocated to an existing office space. The previous laundry room was converted to a light and airy bedroom thanks to the large egress window. To create even more room for the homeowners, we finished another section of the basement into a home gym and spacious laundry room.
Room by Room Breakdown
Outside Entrance
Any explanation of this basement finishing/remodeling project has to start with this incredible door. It fits perfectly with the arched stone exterior. We helped the homeowners select just the right door, which happens to be a Therma-Tru in a stunning dark color that pops truly against the stone.
Mudroom
Everything about this mudroom was centered around practicality – from the built-in with bench and hooks, to the opposite closet, to the easy to clean porcelain tile. And just look at that door from the inside . . .
Family Room
The mudroom leads right into this cozy family room which is grounded by COREtec flooring in Alpine Ash. Open shelving built-ins with adjacent cabinets anchor the gathering space and add warmth, texture, storage.
Basement Bedroom
The additional bedroom in the basement with adjacent bathroom makes the perfect suite for overnight guests. The large egress window floods the room with natural light so that you don’t feel like you are below grade.
Bathroom
Although this bathroom is in a basement, it is a tranquil oasis. The colors and tile choices are calming, the window lets in natural light, and there is shelving for towels and toiletries tucked on the other side of the shower. The fixtures are all by Delta.
Home Gym
You can work out without leaving the house in this home gym then unwind in your own personal sauna.
Laundry Room
The old dark laundry room is gone and replaced with this colorful space where you can actually enjoy doing the wash.
Interior Doors
These interior doors by Reib add character to what could be an otherwise bland space.
